Hi, I'm Cari!

I'm a photojournalist, portrait photographer, artist, and educator, based in West Tennessee. My love for storytelling was fostered in my childhood backyard and has bloomed into a lifetime of curious exploration. My true love Rob and I live in a small city in between Memphis and Nashville, and spend most of our time trying to squeeze in as much travel as possible. I’m currently teaching photojournalism at Union University and pursuing an MA in Digital Media and Ethics through the University of Sussex, in Brighton, England. Rob and I enjoy taking walks in our neighborhood, eating dinner with our neighbors, growing vegetables, playing games, and trying to find time to make art. We both deeply believe in the intrinsic value of all human beings, and that reflects in our communal engagement and in my photography ethics practice. Most of my creative work centers around editorial journalism, portraiture, 35mm film, and cyanotype, with an interest in memory, archives, ecology, and place.

After almost 20 years in the wedding industry, I am stepping away from full time weddings and leaning into journalism, teaching, and portraiture. I’m still taking stories, creative projects, and family oriented sessions, however my availability for events is limited and my focus is shifting. If you’re seeking a photographer for an event, please still inquire and if I am unavailable, I am more than happy to refer you to some of my trusted photography friends who have a similar documentary style intention with their work.
